Alternatives Survey Report

This report summarizes findings from the Fairfield Forward 2050 Land Use Alternatives Survey conducted as part of the alternatives and evaluation stage of the preparation of the Fairfield General Plan Update. The survey was conducted online and was available from October 11 to October 25, 2021, through a link from the project website. The survey focused on reviewing three “land use Alternatives”, which represent different strategies for accommodating new development and achieving the community’s aspirations. Feedback received on these Alternatives will help develop one preferred strategy for shaping growth in Fairfield. The report is available to read here.

Alternatives Workshop Summary Memo

On October 16th, 2021, the Fairfield Forward project team held an open house-style workshop on each of the Plan’s Alternatives, asking attendees to share their favorite concepts, issues of concern, and other preferences. More information on the Alternatives can be found here. A summary memo of the workshop is available here. Workshop materials can be viewed here.

Alternatives Report

This Alternatives Report represents a key step in the update process, where the community will consider and evaluate the best path to achieve Fairfeld’svision for the future. Each alternative contains various concepts that represent different options for future growth and preservation in Fairfeld, addressing goals for housing, conservation, economic development, and bikeable/walkable neighborhoods that have been outlined as some of the key priorities by the community. These Alternatives build on existing conditions and assessment of planning challenges and opportunities, and input from the community through workshops, stakeholder meetings, and a city-wide survey conducted in early 2021.

Draft Vision and Guiding Principles

The Vision reflects the community’s aspirations for Fairfield’s future. It is a summary of the shared goals to be achieved by the General Plan. The Guiding Principles elaborate upon the Vision and will provide guidance to detailed policies. The Vision and Guiding Principles are based on input from the community gained through community workshops and pop-up outreach, an online community survey, stakeholder interviews, General Plan Advisory Committee meetings, and a focused joint City Council and Planning Commission workshop. The City Council and Planning Commission will review this document at the June 16th meeting.
